A long time ago............in a galaxy far away?

Conversation with a 5 year old:

Boy: Today is my mom's anniversary.

Me: You mean your mom AND dad's anniversary?

Boy: yeah (then he rambled on about other topics)........

Me: So do you know when your parents got married?

Boy: Yeah, a long........long.......time ago!

The Sound of Music

A sweet little 2nd grade boy broke into song on the playground and it almost made me tear up - he had such a gentle (and on pitch I might add) falsetto voice and a stage presence to boot. This is what he sang -- knew ALL of the words!

My dad's a pilot...

Overheard in Kindergarten:

Boy1: See my paper airplane; I made it!

Boy 2: You made that just like my dad does; you must know my dad?

Boy 1: uhmm, not really.

Read me my (MIS) Fortune

So today, the kids were served fortune cookies with their hot lunches. Always makes for an interesting day as we get many excited requests from the littles to read their fortunes to them.

You know how you read something out loud and you don't really hear the words until they come out of your mouth, and by then it's a little too late?..............read on........

5 year old (kindergarten boy) asked me to read his fortune

I'm in 'read it and move on to the next child' mode so I proceed to read out loud "You will have a Love Affair' (GASP) what did I just read out loud in front of 45 five year olds?

Another boys blurts out 'What's a Love Affair' to which I reply......

'I don't know but HE'S having one' - LOL

Let's all just be friends

Overheard on the Playground (2nd grade):

Melissa: 'Lunchlady, Susie told me that Cody and Amy are dating!'

Me: 'What do YOU think about that?'

Melissa: 'Well............they DO spend a LOT of time together!'

The Lunchroom Is Now Serving...

I'm back. My 3rd year working in the lunchroom. I've not been posting much -- I blame it on Facebook. No one seems to blog any more, but something cute happened today so I thought I'd post it here.

Cute little kindergarten boy (I'll call him Joey) asks at recess to use the bathroom.

I thought for a second and asked him

Me: 'Didn't you just go during lunch?'

Joey: yes

Me: Well, why do you need to go again?

**while we're having this discussion, Lunchlady #2 sent a little girl to use the bathroom**

Joey: (Pointing at the little girl walking towards the school building) 'Oh I just REALLY like that girl a LOT'

LOL -- I told him he could wait. Then I asked what the girl's name was and he didn't know. So I said,

'Perhaps you should get on a first name basis before professing your love to her?' ROTFL

I love kindergarteners!

The good old days...

One of my 5 year old Kindergarten students was belaboring over a not-so-favorite babysitter of hers. I interrupted her growing list of 'complaints' telling her that perhaps she should report some of these complaints to her parents, to which she replied:

Oh that's okay, she's probably dead now. This was a long time ago when I was only 3!

bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Winter Break (S)

PLURAL

The friday before winter break was our scheduled day for winter parties (formerly known as Christmas parties before the powers that be got involved).

Unfortunately, our entire school day along with the parties got cancelled due to our very first snow day. Mixed blessing to say the least.

So fast forward 2 weeks and a handful of days and we are up and running (literally) again with school brimming with kids, sleds, lunchroom/recess activity.

Our winter parties got rescheduled for last Thursday - shorter versions but at least the kids would get to have one, right? NOPE! School cancelled due to way cold temps. The kind that make vehicles not start, people stock up on food, and parties get (hopefully) rescheduled once again.

Friday and Monday (today) were already SDO (scheduled days off) so we were treated to an extra long 5 day weekend. Also known as Winter Break, part deux!

Stay tuned for more lunchroom anecdotes. . . providing we ever get to return to the lunchroom that is.
